Welsh Dresser Reveal

Some of you might remember the story of my Welsh dresser that I bought back in July.  I didn't have anywhere to put it and I didn't know how I was going to break the news to my poor, long-suffering husband.  But I bought it anyway.

I had the dresser delivered a few weeks later.  See the post
HERE
So it's basically been sitting in my foyer since it was delivered.  (It takes me a while to complete a project.)  But then a few days ago one of my friends who lives in a different town asked me why I hadn't shown any pictures of it.  So here goes the big reveal.  (BTW, my husband loves it.)
This is what you see right after you walk through the front door.

Here's the front door:

I know what you're thinking…..complete tartan overload.  Too much.  It's really kind of embarrassing.
I need to photoshop the electrical cords out of the photo above.

Bitsy and Thomas were big helpers during my "photo shoot."

I love my Staffordshire dogs that I bought on eBay, used as bookends for my old tartan books.

I haven't replaced my little bronze chandelier yet.  (I think it's too small and delicate for the room.)  That's mistletoe, by the way.

I bought my Asian ceramic roof tile parrots at a local antique store.
"Standing guard on the edges of rooftops and perched along the roof's ridges, roof tile parrots protected private homes and public buildings. Popular in the later 1880s and early 1900s, most parrot roof tiles were ceramic or terracotta with a highly glazed finish. " Source
Who knew?

I bought an unfinished wood plaque at the local hobby store and covered it in tartan gift wrapping paper.  (I now know what Modge Podge is used for.)  Then I mounted the little papier-mâché deer head on it.  How easy was that?

I hope that you all have a wonderful holiday.   In view of the horrific event in Connecticut last week, please give your children an extra hug and hold them closely.

I know that I will.

  2. First of all, it's not possible to have too much tartan! Love the Welsh dresser and love the idea of using it in the foyer. It's charming with all your special pieces. I have two Chinese roof tiles. Each one is a figure riding a rooster. Amazing that these ceramic pieces survived. I use mine as bookends.
    Happy Holidays! ~ Sarah

    1. Thank you! Christmas offers so many tartan decorating opportunities that sometimes I even overwhelm myself.

I bought the tartan paper several years ago at a place in Dallas called Knox Street Market on Henderson, which has since gone out of business. It was made by Caspari. Here's what the roll says: "Caspari Gift Wrap Sheet, 4 sheets 40" x 28", Plaid Item 9520RL, Royal Plaid." I've done quite a bit of googling to see if it's still available and unfortunately I don't think that it is. Their website is www.casparionline.com. Good luck!
