Highland Park Charmer

Many of you have probably heard of Highland Park.  It's a small township within the city limits of Dallas, Texas.  It has its own city government, police and fire departments, and school district, which is one of the best public school systems in the country.  It's very safe and has beautiful parks and creeks.  It's also pricey.

As I was looking through the Dallas Multiple Listing Service the other day, I saw this listing for, imo, a fabulous house.  See the listing HERE.  At a mere $2,650,00.00, you too could have this house.  Built in 1920 with 4 bedrooms, 4.1 baths and 5,088 square feet, it's the perfect family home.  Let's take a tour.

Entering the foyer, one immediately notices the calming and soothing gray of the walls.  Of course, I love the blue and white Chinese porcelains.  To the left is the dining room and to the right is the living room.

Looking back towards the front door.  I love the juxtaposition of the contemporary art with the traditional furnishings.

The living room is so elegant with its custom millwork, baby grand piano and soft pastels.  Behind the living room is a music room (maybe).

Looking towards the front of the living room.  If you look closely, you can see how the crown molding juts out above the windows to cover the tops of the curtains.  I'm not sure if the rug is seagrass.  It looks like it, but I can't imagine such an informal material being used in such a formal setting.

Standing in the foyer, you can see the study beyond the living room.   The crown molding above the windows can be seen in more detail in this photo.

I like this club chair in the study.  Looks like someone just got up from having a tall glass of iced tea (or a highball).

This is the room behind the living room that I mentioned might be the music room.  Somebody plays the guitar, that's for sure.

The dining room is to the left as you enter the house.  Love the Greek key pattern painted on the hardwood floors.  The wallpaper is gorgeous…maybe de Gournay?  The soft bluish gray is continued from the foyer and living room, as are the Chinese porcelains.

Another view of the dining room.  Gorgeous chandelier. After looking more closely at the floor, I'm thinking that's not really a Greek key pattern, but it's something close.

The long galley-style kitchen is behind the dining room.  It's open to the family room to the right and garden room behind. I love the blue vine painted on the cabinets.

Looking from the back of the kitchen towards the dining room.  This kitchen is a blue and white lover's dream….look at that painted refrigerator door.

The family room which is open to the kitchen.  The blue painted vine is carried into this room from the kitchen. With children in the house, the carpet looks indestructible.  Pretty chandelier.

Another angle of the family room, looking towards the backyard.  You can see the glassed-in garden room behind the family room and also a back staircase.  This family room is probably where the family spends lots of time.

This was probably a porch behind the family room that was enclosed.  Again, I think that the blue and white motif is stunning.

Another view of the glassed-in back porch.  We'll visit the pool cabana in the backyard after a quick trip upstairs.

Beautiful master bedroom.  Love the tall headboard and monogrammed bed linens.

Son's bedroom.  With the blue and gold flag, it looks like he's a Highland Park Scot.

Daughter's bedroom.  Love the striped curtains.

Another daughter's bedroom.

The beauty continues into the backyard with the lovely pool and cabana.  To the right is the garage.

This cabana would make a wonderful guest house.  Right now it looks like a place where they throw the kids when they're having a big party.

So there you have it.  To see more houses in "The Bubble," as H.P. is called, go HERE.  It's fun to do a little window shopping!
