Capitol of Texas (taller than the National Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.)
My husband and I were recently in Austin, Texas, visiting two of our four children. Austin used to be a small little city, known mainly for being the capital of Texas as well as home to the University of Texas.

Unfortunately, Austin has lost some of its small town charm due, in part, to the 50,000+ enrollment of U.T. After graduating, many students don't want to leave.
In a fairly conservative state, Austin is an oasis for the liberals, the free thinkers, dare I say "the kooks"?
Even if a person is on the liberal/conservative fence, he or she still loves the nonconforming, somewhat quirky vibe of the city.
Whenever I'm in Austin, I always try to stop by one of my favorite stores. In a town full of eccentricity, Uncommon Objects carries it to a whole new level.
I never know what I'll find there…..
If you've been following my blog, you probably know by now that I lean towards the slightly whimsical...the somewhat peculiar…a touch of the idiosyncratic.

So it should come as no surprise that I always make a beeline to Uncommon Objects the minute I hit town.
My sweet, long-suffering husband stayed in the car while I went looking for new treasures on our last trip to Austin. I had a wonderful time and, as usual, found a singular object to add to my collection of oddities.
As I got into the car, he said, "What did you buy?"
(Are you ready?)

I replied, "A typewriter."
"Of course," he answered.
And that was that.

Yes, I'm one of the UT grads that stayed and made Austin my permanent home. it's a great city! Perhaps we can meet for coffee next time to visit.......Sarah
ReplyDeleteI love Austin! I'm down there quite a bit because of our children and also my sister. I'd love to get together. Will let you know the next time I'm heading down. Thanks!
DeleteGreat typewriter. Fun city.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's a VERY fun city.
DeleteAustin looks like a beautiful city. Love the typewriter you found!
ReplyDeleteYes, Austin is very pretty in a Wild West kind of way. Because it's on the edge of the Hill Country, deer freely roam parts of the city. If you're ever in Texas, you should definitely visit!
DeleteThat is just awesome - I love it!
